Maureen Roque

About Me
My name is Maureen Ann Vallarta Roque. I was named after Miss Aruba from the 1974 Miss Universe Pageant. I like parentheses, Century Gothic, pop culture trivia, and Boggle. I have tendencies to burst into Christmas songs, confuse left from right, and ramble on with nonsensical babble. I attended the University of California Berkeley, haunting its ginormous libraries and dusty archives as a History major. I now gallivant around sunny LA-LA-LAnd in hardcore aviator sunglasses and scruffy Converse shoes.
What Drew Me to the Walk
I spent my collegiate years eating greasy take out for every meal, drinking copious amounts of coffee/soda/liquidswithhigh-fructosecornsyrup, and living a sedentary lifestyle with very little physical activity. Only recently have I realized just how much damage my personal well-being had suffered and what potential dangers I could face in the future, particularly as a Pilipin@–a community in which type 2 diabetes is prevalent. As a result, I have been more conscious and proactive about nutrition, portion-control, and exercise. It’s been a curious learning experience to be part of The Walk, especially the little tidbits Melissa likes to gush about. She’s just wickedly amazazing.
